The Flintstones

September 30th, 1960 saw the beginning of The Flintstones airing on ABC.

It would be the first cartoon to air Primetime on Friday nights at 8:30pm.

It is the second most successful and longest running animated series behind the Simpsons.

One of my earliest memories is of racing up the front yard and into the house with my aunt as evening fell to watch The Flintstones.

TV junkie in the making fer sure.

On September 28th 1987, Star Trek TNG Season 1 premiered in broadcast syndication.

and a couple suits

One thing I found amusing upon recently re-watching season 1 was the hydraulic lift.

I think in the beginning the almighty network was not yet convinced that TNG was going to be a financial success. It showed in wardrobe and sets in comparison to later seasons.

So they had this lift in engineering. You can tell it cost a bit of money. I swear every single crew member was on that damn lift at some point during the pilot.

Also, Evelyn Guerrero (Donna from Cheech and Chong) is in the first episode as well as DeForest Kelley.

Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare

On September 13th, 1991

Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare was released in US theaters.

Tom Bradley, then mayor of LA, declared this day to be “Freddy Krueger Day”.

Directed by Rachel Talalay, who had produced many of the previous Freddy franchise entries, in her directorial debut.

She would go on to direct future films including Tank Girl (1995).

It was to be the last Freddy movie until Wes Craven’s reimagining 3 years later.

The last 10 minutes of the original theatrical release was in 3D.

The effect was eliminated for VHS and television releases.

There is a laserdisc version out there with the 3D effect intact.

Also, 1999 New Line Cinema DVD box set included the 10 minutes of 3D with two sets of glasses. I didn’t get the glasses with mine. I bought it at the Goodwill for 10 bucks.

Art Lefleur

Art Lefleur was born on September 9th, 1943

He’s just one of those actors that when you see them on screen you think to yourself,

“Damn, that dudes in everything.”

Since the internet has ate your brain you grab for the nearest device and start scrolling through his IMDB page and you realize that he was, in fact, “in everything”.

I mean he’s no Stephen Tobolowsky... but...

The Hollywood Knights (1980)

Jekyll & Hyde ...together again (1982)

The Blob (1988)
The Sandlot (1993)
Cobra (1986)

This 2010 independent comedy horror looks interesting.

It’s directed by and stars Ford Austin (in dual roles) and features Art Lefleur as a doctor and Harland Williams as God.
