Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare

On September 13th, 1991

Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare was released in US theaters.

Tom Bradley, then mayor of LA, declared this day to be “Freddy Krueger Day”.

Directed by Rachel Talalay, who had produced many of the previous Freddy franchise entries, in her directorial debut.

She would go on to direct future films including Tank Girl (1995).

It was to be the last Freddy movie until Wes Craven’s reimagining 3 years later.

The last 10 minutes of the original theatrical release was in 3D.

The effect was eliminated for VHS and television releases.

There is a laserdisc version out there with the 3D effect intact.

Also, 1999 New Line Cinema DVD box set included the 10 minutes of 3D with two sets of glasses. I didn’t get the glasses with mine. I bought it at the Goodwill for 10 bucks.

It was the first Friday the 13th movie since 1988 not to feature Kane Hodder as Jason.

Kane Hodder still technically made it into the movie in an interesting way:

I’m trying to refrain from buying more crap but how cool is this?

It’s the Nightmare franchise up to and including Wes Craven’s New Nightmare plus a bonus DVD entitled The Nightmare Series Encyclopedia.

I found this 1999 New Line DVD set at the Goodwill recently and couldn’t pass it up.
