The Invisible Man Returns

 On January 12th, 1940, The Invisible Man Returns was released nationwide in the US. It is a sequel to The Invisible Man (1933).

Avenging Angel

 Avenging Angel was released in US theaters on January 11th, 1985.

It is a sequel to 1984’s Angel starring Donna Wilkes. Avenging Angel was made in less than a year following the success of Angel. The sequel did not perform as well as the original.

Vic Mizzy

 Vic Mizzy was born on January 9th, 1916.

Throughout the 30’s and 40’s Mizzy wrote many songs including Doris Day’s 1945 hit “My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time”.

From the 60’s into the 70’s he began work in television and film including The Addams Family and Green Acres themes and the scores for a string of Don Knotts movies.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)

He wrote an anti-jaywalking public service jingle that featured his daughter (and singer/songwriter) Patty Keeler on vocals. The song was later covered on the They Might Be Giants childrens album No! (2002). The track is sung by TMBG’s John Flansburgh’s wife, Robin Goldwasser.

Phantom of the Opera (1925)

Phantom of the Opera saw an initial premiere on January 7th, 1925 in Los Angeles, California. The audience didn’t react well. A rewrite and reshoot with a different director was received even less favorably the following April. A third and final version was released the following November.

The 1978 Sex Pistols US Tour Begins

On January 5th, 1978 the Sex Pistols kicked off the first US tour in Atlanta, Georgia at the Great South East Music Hall. A previous show had been cancelled in Pittsburgh due to visa issues.

The band would then make their way through the southernmost points of the US over the next week. 

Malcolm McLaren had intentionally booked the most redneck venues available to promote as much chaos as possible.

The band and the tour would implode just over a week later in San Francisco, California.
