On February 5th, 1969, the sketch comedy show, Turn-On premiered on ABC at 8:30pm EST. Created by Ed Friendly and George Schlatter, the producers of Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In. Among the cast was Teresa Graves, who would soon join Laugh In. Tim Conway was the guest host.
The show was pulled from the air after the first commercial break by most affiliates for “excessive poor taste” and viewer complaints. One station played a black screen while playing live organ music. It was an emergency protocol that hadn’t been used by the station for 20 years.
It was so bad that when the west coast caught wind of how bad it was, they didn’t even air it.
